Connect Workflows and Client Flows

Start client journeys and release steps after internal work.

Workflows can coordinate Smart Flows and Onboarding Flows. The flow provides the client pages; the Workflow runs internal actions and decisions.

Start a flow

Add the Start flow action. Choose a published flow template and supply the intended contact. Optional related-record and context fields can associate the run with the surrounding process.

Starting a portal flow can prepare client access and send an invitation. Starting a public flow can deliver its configured invitation. Verify the contact and delivery settings before running the Workflow.

Release a held step

In the flow builder, select Hold until released by workflow for the step that must wait. In the Workflow, place Make next Flow step available after the required actions or approval.

When the Workflow follows a Flow step trigger, the action can use that context. Otherwise, provide the intended flow run; specify a step when needed rather than relying on an unrelated run's current step.

A held step remains unavailable until released. Publishing a template or completing an earlier client step does not itself replace the release action.

Track the journey

Set journey stage updates the visible stage for the Workflow run. It does not complete a client step or change a linked invoice's payment status.

Use a Wait for an event, approval, or client outcome. Review both Workflow run detail and the client flow's step progress when diagnosing a stalled journey.
